二、弗吉尼亚大学的历史
弗吉尼亚大学创建于1819年，创建人是美国《独立宣言》的起草人之一，老牌名校威廉玛丽学院毕业生，美国第3任总统托马斯·杰斐逊。杰斐逊好学多才，兴趣广泛。他既是美国民主的创始人和美国总统，也当过美国副总统，国务卿，驻法大使。也是土地测量师、建筑师、古生物学家、哲学家、音韵学家和作家。他懂得拉丁语、希腊语、法语、西班牙语和意大利语。他还对数学、农艺学和建筑学，甚至提琴等感兴趣。人们称他是天资最高、最多才多艺的美国总统。
