School of Business and Economics
University of Exeter
EX4 4QJ
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am currently studying on the Pre-MBA course at Leeds University. With a BSc in Electronic Engineering from the Electronic Information School of Wu Han University, which is one of the top universities in China, I came to study in the Language Centre of University of Leeds last September in order to prepare for further study in the UK. After listening to the suggestions from the teachers in the Wu Han University and Leeds University, I would like to apply for acceptance to the MSc in Marketing and Finance programme at the University of Exeter.
I was born in 1981 in Jiang Xi, one of China’s most-industrialized provinces. After completing my high school education, I gained the admission into Wu Han University in 1998. As having chosen Electronic Engineer as my first degree, I enjoyed my studies and received high grade in most modules. During the period of my being the Chairman of Student Union of Electronic Information School from 1999 to 2001, I organized many social activitie
s of Electronic Information School, the second largest school of the university, which not only enriched my extracurricular life, but also cultivated my abilities of communication, motivation staff and organization.
Nevertheless, during my undergraduate career, I found myself developing a serious interest in Business Studies. Nowadays, the power of a nation lies in its economic strength. This is particularly so for China, which has to support a quarter of the humankind with only a fraction of the world’s wealth. While the development of the Marketing and Finance is essential to every country, no other country in the world has to shoulder the kind of responsibility than China does. As China joined the WTO in November 2001 formally, therefore, the situation of Chinese Marketing and Finance is more and more important to the whole world. In four years of assiduous studying, I have read many books in related fields. I have obtained a solid academic background in Mathematics, Statistics and Basic Economic Theory. I also took some modules such as Securities Investment, Real Estate Economics and International&
nbsp;Finance as my electives. It is most important that I was fortunate to be able to attend several graduate level lectures such as Advanced Marketing and Macroeconomics by overseas professors. These lectures not only introduced me to new economics concepts and theories, but also broadened my perspective and gave me new insights into the depth the field of Marketing and Finance.
Before starting my Pre-MBA course, I also had a three-month Target Language Course in the Language Centre of the University of Leeds. I worked hard in all aspects of the course. As a result of my efforts, I have made good steady progress throughout. After receiving positive feedback from the teachers in Leeds University Language Centre, I am now studying this Pre-MBA course in order to connect my two degrees. This course is not solely for improving English, but also for learning basic Business Theory. At the same time, during my year in Britain I shall be able to learn about British culture both in terms of language and finance, which are totally different from those of China. I believe that
it is very useful for a Modern Marketing and Finance student before they do a new course in a different country.
As I had been a part-time assistant in the Marketing Department of ‘China National Ferrous Materials South & Central China Corporation’ during the Summer Holiday of 2001, I would be able to recognize Business Study much better. After exchanging opinions on this issue with Professor Li, who is teaching in the Management Department of Wu Han University, he encouraged me to further my study in Business, recommending me to take the MSc in Marketing and Finance course in the UK.
I was greatly influenced by the University of Exeter when I visited last November, not only because of the world-wide acknowledged degree, but also the academic environment and atmosphere of this distinctive university. What particularly attracts me is the excellent standouts and distinguished nature of the Business and Economics School. I trust that is the best choice for my future and I am confident that I would succeed in developing my knowledge and do something for my country after&
nbsp;I graduate.
Yours faithfully,
