Program Description A significant International Advisory Committee ensures industry relevance. The Master of Arts (Virtual Communication) prepares graduates for new roles in managing e-communication. The focus is on: global collaboration within and between organisations; and creative communication strategy for taking products and services to the e-market.
The program integrates three specialist areas of communication management, multimedia and Internet management, including strong theoretical frameworks and practical application with emphasis on virtual project management. Focus includes knowledge management, designing for interactivity, website development, streaming technologies, communicating technical solutions, international corporate communication and e-marketing.
Students have diverse professional backgrounds such as public relations, marketing, journalism, human resources, global management, IT strategy, business information technology and web design. Drawing on their different specialisations, experience and cultural perspectives, they form a knowledge sharing network. Guided by lecturers, they research existing and emerging technologies related to strategic communication for cross-cultural e-business. Postgraduate capabilities are developed in critical thinking and ill-structured problem solving, and analysis includes communication-driven IT solutions for successful business practice.
Teaching Methods Classes are taught in a combination of lecture / seminar, tutorial, workshop, practical and laboratory sessions.
Assessment Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and may include examinations, essay / reports, oral class presentations, group projects, research projects, st
udio / design projects and practical assignments.
Mode and Duration Please Note: part-time study is not available to International Students.
Masters: three semesters full-time Students may also undertake single courses (subjects). Flexible delivery includes a mix of master classes and workshops on the City campus or Sydney CBD, with online conferencing and collaborative online projects.
Entrance Requirements: Master of Arts by Coursework (Virtual Communication) One of the following: IELTS 7.0 (no band below 6.5); RMIT CELL - Advanced Level.
Prior undergraduate degree with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred; or strong industry experience. Personal statement (500 words), CV and interview also required.
Career Prospects Graduates will manage e-communication for joint ventures and projects within and between organisations globally. They will also design and develop innovative communication strategies for a competitive global market
Program Structure This program is based on a modular structure. It will be possible for students to undertake single courses (subjects) which may then be built into a postgraduate qualification at multiple exit levels: Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts.
