Nurses care for people of all ages in a variety of industry settings, schools, the community,government, hospitals, the tourism industry, international aid, scientific research and in the home. Nursing practice can focus on health promotion, health education and illness prevention, as well as caring for people during disease, illness and rehabilitation. Nurses can also function as independent and interdependent health care practitioners in collaboration with clients and other health care providers.

Academic Entrance Requirements Successful completion of Year 12, Foundation Studies or equivalent.
Career Prospects On completion of the Bachelor of Nursing program, graduates will be eligible to work as registered nurses in a wide range of nursing care settings. Areas where work opportunities exist include acute care, extended care, community health agencies, rehabilitation, schools, industry, child care and local government programs. Australian qualified nurses are recognised internationally, opening up the prospec
t of travel and work overseas.
Program Structure The Bachelor of Nursing is based on a continuum of care model which encompasses acute care nursing, continuing care nursing and community care nursing. The first year of the program provides the student with the scientific knowledge, attributes and skills to undertake year two and three studies. The theoretical and practical components of the program are integrated, with each comprising approximately 50% of the program. The theory component is presented in formal lectures, group tutorials, seminars, laboratory classes and independent study programs. Emphasis is placed on the ability to understand and successfully employ problem-solving techniques. Flexible modes of delivery are used in presenting the program. During clinical practicuum, which occurs in a wide variety of clinical settings, staff from RMIT Nursing guide students and facilitate learning. The Context Curriculum electives provide students with opportunities to pursue non-nursing studies. Successful applicants will normally complete the program at RMIT University抯 Bundoora (Melbourne) campus. Flexible delivery of the Bachelor of Nursing may allow students to complete sections of the program in their country of residence.
Honours Year Students of distinction may be offered an opportunity to undertake a further year of study and graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing (Honours). Satisfactory completion of the program will enable the student to apply for entrance in either a Master of Nursing (by Research) or a doctoral program (PhD).
Additional Costs Students will be required to undertake clinical practicuum and to purchase an RMIT Nursing uniform which is worn while on clinical practicuum.
