Entrance Requirements:
IELTS:: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0); RMIT CELL - Advanced Level
Applicants should have a recognised bachelor degree in any discipline; or evidence of successful completion of a post-matriculation diploma program of at least three years’ duration in any discipline; or demonstrated substantial industrial experience in related fields or be able to provide evidence of their creative and artistic abilities through a substantial body of work.

All applicants are required to complete a selection test to gain entry into the program. Applicants have about three weeks to complete this test which is designed to reveal conceptual and creative ability

Program Description
This coursework based Master Degree program runs over three full-time semesters with an optional exit point at Graduate Certificate level after one semester and at Graduate Diploma level after two semesters of study.

These programs provide a rich and stimulating learning environment for those seeking personal and professional development relevant to the animation, interactive and ‘new media’ industries. The program builds on a long and notable history of media training in animation and pioneering work in the development of interactive content.

The partnership between image, sound, time and interaction creates a powerful tool for communicating ideas. This intensive production-based program aims to foster creative talent through the practical production of short engaging works. Students learn how to get their ideas before an audience in the most effective way possible. The program provides a unique opportunity to realise a personal vision for either the ‘big’ or ‘small’ screen and to demonstrate t angible evidence of their talents and mastery over the medium in the key creative role of writer/director, through short published audio/visual works. Student productions have been exhibited at major local and international film festivals, at prestigious computer graphics and interactive seminars, and have won numerous awards in open competition both in Australia and overseas.

The program includes script writing, basic principles of animation, interface design, animation techniques, lighting, computer animation, sound and soundtrack design, production methods, production management, cinematic language, interactive authoring, and Internet projects and Web page authoring.

Successful applicants should be prepared for an intensive and demanding year of full-time study designed to develop a potent combination of skills much in demand in the ‘new media’ and information technology industries including: directorial ability, good design sense, animation skills, an understanding of possibilities inherent in the cinematic arts, intimate familiarity with production processes, computer literacy, the ability to conceive and author engaging interactive works and critical self-appraisal.

Teaching Methods
Classes are taught in a combination of lecture / seminar, tutorial, workshop, practical and laboratory sessions.

Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and may include examinations, essay / reports, oral class presentations, group projects, research projects, studio / design projects and practical assignments.

Mode and Duration
Please Note: part-time study is not available to International Students.

Graduate Certificate: one semester full-time; Graduate Diploma: an additional semester full-time; Master of Arts: an additional six months full-time study.

Mode and Duration: Master of Arts: one and a half years full-time study.
This includes Graduate Certificate: half a year full-time;
Graduate Dipl oma: an additional half a year full-time.

Career Prospects
The program has an excellent track record in producing graduates who move directly into high-end professional production in the industry of their choice. Graduates of the program have gained international recognition for their innovative work. Some have become successful leaders in the local industry, producing animated television commercials, children’s television programs, web projects, video games, interactives and museum displays. Several past graduates have received substantial government funding to pursue personal work, as a result of experience gained during the program.
