The latest Chinese "god song" (an Internet term to describe pop songs that spread virally(病毒性地) through Internet) is still stirring fierce debate between those who view it as a milestone for Chinese pop music going global and those who regard it as bad for China's image.
Last week, Little Apple, written and performed by the Chopsticks Brothers, won the AMA International Song Award and the duo performed the song at the 2014 American Music Awards in Los Angeles. Another Chinese pop singer, Zhang Jie, won the International Artist Award.
But while fans of these singers are thinking highly of the awards and the performance by the Chopsticks Brothers at the AMA celebration as significant, there are others who are less excited. They have questioned the value of the awards and what effect it will have on Chinese culture's "going abroad", claiming it may leave foreign audiences with a poor impression of Chinese pop music, and even Chinese culture.
The Little Apple phenomenon, both home and abroad, can be more easily understood and judged if we look at it from a business perspective rather than a cultural perspective. The professional promoters behind the duo have developed a clear strategy to promote the duo and their work, not just this particular song. Little Apple was originally released to promote the duo's film Old Boys: The Way of the Dragon.
From the very beginning a viral marketing strategy was used to promote the song, which immediately went viral on the Internet due to its repetitive rhythm, easy-to-remember lyrics, simple and funny dance and, most importantly, grassroots nature. The video accumulated more than 1 billion hits on China's major video website.
Although the song was generally dismissed by music professionals who criticized it as musical "junk food", Little Apple's popularity nationally paved the way for promoting the duo internationally.
21.The writer’s attitude to the song of Little Apple is ______.
   A. opposed      B. negative     C. objective       D. critical
22. What does the underlined words “the duo” refer to?
   A. Little Apple              B. Chopsticks brothers
   C. Zhang Jie                D. American singer
23. We can learn from the passage that ______.
   A. Little Apple's popularity is also a success of marketing strategy
   B. Little Apple is generally thought worthless by the AMA
   C. Little Apple is really popular with all people in China
   D. Little Apple was originally released as a pop song on the Internet
B

It was first developed as a mews (row of stables) that serviced horses from homes in the area. Since the 1950s the former stables have served as housing, offices and other facilities for New York University.
Jefferson Market Courthouse
Built in 1833 as a market, it was later changed to a courthouse, and in the 1950s it was emptied and close to being destroyed. It was saved and turned into a library. Many consider it to be the most beautiful building in the village.

The practice of magic includes special words, actions, and objects. Most magic involves a person called a magician, who claims to have supernatural powers.
Magic words. To work most magic, the magician sings or speaks special words in a certain order. These words are called incantations or spells. Some spells form prayers to monsters, spirits, or other supernatural forces. Many societies believe the magic will not work unless the magician recites the spells perfectly. Other magic words have no meaning, though they supposedly possess power when spoken by a magician.
Magic actions accompany the words spoken in performing much magic. Many of these movements act out the desired effect of the magic. For example, a magician trying to make rain fall may sprinkle water on the ground. The magician’s combined words and actions form a ceremony .
Magic objects include certain plants, stones, and other things with supposed supernatural powers. Any such object may be called a fetish. But this term often refers to an object—for example, a carving or a dried snake—honored by a tribe for its magic powers. Many tribes believe fetishes have magic power because spirits live in these objects.
Many people carry magic objects called amulets to protect themselves from harm. Many amulets are stones or rings with magic symbols.
The magician. In some societies, nearly everyone knows how to work some magic. In other societies, only experts practice magic. Magicians may be called medicine men, medicine women, shamans, sorcerers, or witch doctors. In many societies, magicians must inherit their powers. In others, any person may become a magician by studying the magical arts.
Many societies believe magicians must observe certain rules and taboos (forbidden actions) for their spells to work. For example, they may be required not to eat various foods or to avoid sexual activity for a certain period before the ceremony.
32. What do magic words mean to people in some societies?
A. They have the power to kill devils.
B. They can be used whenever they want.
C. They have no effect at all.
D. They have power if a magician recites the right spells.
33. People believe magic actions will have an effect if they are accompanied by ______.
A. medicine        B. the spells
C. magic objects        D. stones or rings with magic symbols
34. According to the passage what kind of person can become a magician?
A. Only men.
B. Only those studying the magical arts.
C. Almost all the people in some societies.
D. Only those inheriting their powers.
35. What’s the best title of the passage?

Dear Peter,
I have received your e-mail. I am very excited and inspired by the good news that you have been admitted into Harvard. First I’d like to offer my congratulations to you on your great success and I also hope to enter a famous university just like you.
Now I want to tell you something about myself. As you know, I’m busy preparing for the College Entrance Examination. Day after day I work very hard and have to stay up late doing piles of papers. However, I’m always feeling stressed out because my efforts don’t seem to pay off, which makes me frustrated and exhausted. Will you be kind enough to give me some advice?
I would appreciate it if you could write back to me as soon as possible.
                                                               Yours,
                   Li Hua
