　　Cost of Attendance by Program

　　The cost of attendance, also known as the "budget" or "COA," represents the student's maximum financial aid eligibility. The budget is determined by the school and consists of tuition and fees plus estimated living expenses.

　　In determining the budget, the school applies a conservative estimate of living expenses to all students. We recognize, however, that actual living expenses vary from person to person. If the student faces higher actual costs or has extenuating circumstances that warrant a higher cost of attendance, the student may request a budget increase.

　　2016-17: Advanced Architecture, Urban Design & Real Estate Development

　　(Based on a Twelve-month academic year)

　　Each charge is billed and due each semester for first-year Film Studies MA students unless otherwise noted. Additional fees may apply.

　　August Entry BudgetThe estimated 9-month student budget will include tuition, mandatory fees, health service fees & health insurance, books & supplies, and moderate living expenses. This number represents the maximum amount of funding you can receive through any scholarships, fellowships, sponsorship or student loans. The Financial Aid office recommends that you borrow responsibly and only the amount you truly need.

　　*Fees are estimated. Mandatory fees include instructional materials fee, document fee, and first-year student orientation fees. International students pay an additional $70 per semester for an ISSO fee. Note that tuition and fees generally increase in the second year.

　　Students may incur additional costs not included in the budget above and should prepare accordingly. Examples include:

　　Platinum plan medical insurance;

　　Chazen-approved study tours;

　　Medical expenses not covered by insurance;

　　Optional club dues, conferences, travel, and event costs;

　　Summer expenses before, during, and after school;

　　Recruiting trips and other job search-related expenses.

　　The room and board budget breakdown is as follows:

　　Room - $13,950 ($1,550 per month)

　　Board - $5,625 ($625 per month)

　　Utilities - $1,800 ($200 per month)

　　Standard Cost of Attendance

　　Financial aid starts with the standard cost of attendance (COA) for a student. The items listed below form the basis for what the Financial Aid Office can permit in overall financial aid, including student loans. The following student budget is for the 2016-2017 academic year.

　　2016–2017 Costs

　　Living costs for the nine-month, 2016–2017 academic year are budgeted as follows:

　　*This is the Standard Cost of Attendance (COA), which is used to determine eligibility for LRAP.

　　NOTE: Educational loan fees will automatically be added to the cost of attendance at the time of loan certification.

　　Additional Allowances

　　Dependent Care Allowance: $5,000 allowance for first child; $4,000 each additional child. Please contact our office for details regarding the regulations and documentation required for a dependent care allowance.

　　School of Nursing

　　Tuition and Fees

　　*The student health service fee is mandatory for all nursing students. Tuition is determined by the Board of Trustee of Columbia University in June. There may be a slight increase in tuition and fees, historically the increase has been 3%, but that has yet to be determined.

　　**Students holding a non-resident visa will be charged a $50 per term International Service Charge Fee.
