INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
An international student is a student who is not a citizen of, or a permanent resident (green card holder) of, or a refugee in the United States of America (F & J Visas). Typically, International Students require an F or J visa.
Requirements
Freshmen are encouraged to have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) (a B or better where A=4.0) from a secondary school.
Transfer students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (a B or better where A=4.0) from a college or university.
Applicants from the United States and Canada are required to submit either the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). International students do not need to take the ACT or the SAT tests for admission unless they wish to play varsity sports. However if you have taken either, please submit the results.
English Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants whose native language is not English (identified by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Public Affairs) must provide evidence of English language proficiency. The English proficiency requirement may be fulfilled by meeting one of the following:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores (Colorado School of Mines institution code: 4073): Students whose native language is not English must submit acceptable TOEFL scores as part of the application process. Mines requires a minimum score of 550 paper-based test or 79 internet-based test with minimum section scores as shown below. Tests must have been taken within the past two years to be accepted

Minimum overall band of 6.5 with no band below 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Pearson Test of English/PTE Academic: Minimum overall score of 53 with no communicative skills score below 50.
Exceptions to the English (TOEFL/IELTS/Person Test) Requirement:
Applicants who have completed their junior and senior years in a U.S. high school with SAT Verbal score of 550 or ACT English score of 23.
Applicants who have completed a minimum of 48 transferable semester credits including 6 credits of freshman English composition at a U.S. college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants holding a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
Applicants who have completed four years of high school in a U.S. high school. These applicants are subject to high school competency requirements; and ACT and/or SAT results.
Competency Requirement
International students who attended 4 years of high school in the United States are required to meet the competency requirements.
4 units of English
2 units of algebra
1 unit of geometry
1 unit of advanced mathematics (trigonometry)
3 units of history or social studies
3 units of lab science (1 unit must be chemistry or physics)
2 units of academic electives
Trigonometry is our minimum math requirement; however, you should complete pre-calculus or calculus if you have the opportunity to do so.
Statement of Support
All international applicants on F1 or J1 visas must provide a Statement of Support to show evidence of sufficient funds available for their studies before the I-20 can be processed.
Application Deadlines
You must submit the Application for Undergraduate Admission, along with the application processing fee, by the deadline specified for each semester. In order to expedite the evaluation of your application, also submit official transcripts, test scores and supporting credentials immediately.
Fall Semester
Mines' international application deadline for fall semester is March 1.
Spring Semester
Preferential application deadline is October 1.
