  M.A. in Biblical Studies

Students may be admitted into the M.A. in Biblical Studies under one of the following three categories:

BA in Biblical Studies or the equivalent 42 credit hours in Biblical Studies, including 12 semester hours of Hebrew and 12 semester hours of Greek.

Applicants with a BA degree in another discipline can be admitted into a qualifying period of Biblical Studies and languages.

Applicants with an M.Div (or equivalent) and who meet the language requirements also qualify.

Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B) in the last two years of the BA (half of these courses at the upper level), including the 12 semester hours of upper level course work in the major with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (B+).

The MA application includes a statement of objectives and interests, an academic research paper, and two reference letters.

For specific questions about tailoring a program of studies to a specific area of interest, please consult Dr. Craig Allert, Director of the Master of Arts in Biblical Studies Program.

  MBA program

FOR INTERNATIONAL OR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKING STUDENTS

International students can apply for direct admission to the MBA program. To do so, complete the application steps above and submit the additional requirement of an IELTS score of at least 7.0 across all bands or a TOEFL score of at least 100, with balanced subscores.

If you do not have a language score at this level, you can apply for conditional admission to the MBA program in cooperation with the ESLI Pre-Masters Program at TWU or the TLC Post-Graduate Studies program in Richmond. To do this, complete the application steps below. This application process will provide students with a conditional admission to the MBA program, preceded by necessary English language training and the opportunity to complete outstanding application requirements for the program.

Application: Complete the ESLI application or TLC application.

Fee: Include a non-refundable international application fee of $150.

References: Request two confidential reference letters, one of which must be from a senior officer in your organization familiar with your character, work performance, and leadership potential. It not available, two academic references are acceptable.

Admissions Statement: All students must submit a personal admissions statement of 500-800 words. This statement should describe your academic and personal goals, key experiences leading to your desire for academic advancement, and reasons for pursuing this program at Trinity Western University.

Transcripts: Send an official copy of your post-secondary transcript from all institutions you have attended. The MBA program requires a GPA of at least 3.0 based on the final two years of your undergraduate program.

English Requirements: A TOEFL score of at least 100 or an IELTS score of at least 7.0 across all bands is required for direct admission consideration. However, applicants who would like to enrol in Pre-Masters ESL Program or TLC Post-Graduate Studies coursework prior to entering the MBA program may receive a conditional admission to the MBA program, without submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score. In this case, English language proficiency will be assessed upon arrival at TWU and students will be placed into the appropriate ESL class, whether in ESLi’s Pre-Masters Program or TLC’s Post-Graduate Studies option.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT): During the final semester of the ESLI Pre-Masters program or TLC Post-Graduate Studies program, you will be required to write the GMAT exam. A score of 550 or higher is recommended to be competitive for admission.

Entrance Interview: Some applicants will be selected to complete an interview (which may occur by telephone conference call or Skype interview via the internet). The interview will evaluate an applicant's level of maturity, interpersonal skills, career focus, and motivation. This may be deferred until successful completion of the ESLi Pre-Masters program or TLC Post-Graduate Studies program and GMAT exam.

Educational Studies - Special Education (MA)

An undergraduate degree in education or a relevant field

Successful completion of the professional year, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 (Consideration may be given to a lower GPA when the applicant can demonstrate ability to study at the graduate level.)

Possession of or eligibility for a BC Professional Teaching Certificate or other Professional Teaching Certification as approved

Three or more years of school-based teaching experience or approved equivalent.

  Counselling Psychology (MA)

#1: You have earned a 4-year B.A. degree in Psychology (honours psychology preferred), or an equivalent 4-year degree, from an accredited institution. You have successfully completed all pre-requisite courses and admission requirements to the program.

#2: You have earned a 4-year degree from an accredited institution, but do not meet all admission requirements. In this case, you may receive a conditional acceptance pending successful completion (minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher) of pre-requisite course(s) prior to starting the program.

The minimum G.P.A. for admission is 3.0 (or B) based on the last two years of the B.A. (presuming these include predominantly upper-level courses) and the minimum grades of four of the upper-level courses in psychology must be 3.7 (A-).

  GRE REQUIREMENT:

Applicants may supplement the documentation of their academic credentials by submitting their score from the GRE Aptitude Examination (General Test) or from the MAT (Miller Analogies Test). When more than five years have elapsed since their bachelor’s degree was awarded, applicants must submit either the GRE or MAT. Other applicants who would like to strengthen their application by submitting the GRE or MAT scores may do so. Trinity Western’s institutional code for score submission is 0876. Applicants who have an M.A. in research-based subfields of psychology but who wish to acquire clinical skills are encouraged to apply.

  REFERENCE REQUIREMENT:

Applications must be accompanied by two references: 1) Academic Reference 2) Work-related Reference. These references must be written by persons who know the applicant well and can describe his/her personal qualifications for the role of counsellor. References may be written on plain paper and submitted in a sealed envelope with a signature across the seal.

  Educational Leadership (MA)

Undergraduate degree completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the final two years of the degree

Three to five years of work experience, preferably in leadership roles

Selected learners may be admitted without an undergraduate degree subject to the “Exceptional Admissions category” requirements below. This will be an exception.

Successful MA Leadership applicants will demonstrate English language proficiency at a master’s (graduate) level of analysis and thinking. English as a Second Language (ESL) applicants achieving a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 105, or IELTS score of 7.5 on all bands, are considered to have achieved that level of proficiency, and may be eligible for direct entry to the MA Leadership program. Applicants scoring lower than this level, but with a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 100, or 7.0 on all bands of IELTS, are eligible to apply for the TWU ESLI Pre-Masters Program (PMP). Achievement of a PMP passing grade indicates demonstration of an acceptable level of English language proficiency for program entry.

For those with an IBT TOEFL score of less than 100, or IELTS score of less than 7.0, PMP entry will only be considered following demonstrated improvement in English language competency via participation at an appropriate level of the TWU ESLI program.

  Interdisciplinary Humanities (MA)

One of the following undergraduate requirements:

BA (honours or equivalent) in English, history, or philosophy

a four-year BA degree with a major in one of the above disciplines

a BA degree with 24 or more senior level (300-400) semester hours in one of the above disciplines

BEd and a major in one of the above disciplines or concentrations/minors in at least two of the disciplines

a strong BA program in diverse humanities disciplines

In each case, an average of B+ in the relevant humanities disciplines is required. Consideration for admission into a period of qualifying studies will be given to motivated applicants whose academic or disciplinary background is not as strong. Details regarding the amount of preparation necessary for entry into the program will be worked out with the program director. Please direct any questions regarding your academic background to the program director, Dr. Myron Penner (Myron.Penner@twu.ca). A final official transcript from the college or university is required.

  2. Two references (one professional and one academic)

  3. Admissions statement (500-700 words)

  4. Writing Sample (*may be requested)

Details may be found on the application at www.twu.ca/gradapply

Priority application deadline is April 1 for Fall, November 1 for Spring.

  Nursing (MSN)

To be admitted into the MSN program, applicants must have:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or nursing diploma (Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse) plus degree with a GPA of 3.0 (B) in the final two years of the undergraduate program (GPA requirement may be waived in exceptional circumstances e.g. mature student with additional experience/education).

There is an expectation that a student has statistical knowledge at the level of a basic undergraduate statistics course. Students who do not have an undergraduate statistics course within the past 5 years are advised to take a statistics course prior or during the program.

Practicing Registration with Provincial/State Regulatory body.

For students whose first language is not English: A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 105, or a minimum IELTS of 7.5 on all bands.

completed at least 6 semester hours (or equivalent) of a foreign language. If the applicant does not meet this requirement, the requirement may be met later during the program; however, any credits earned towards the foreign language requirement will not be included in the total hours needed to complete the M.A. degree.

Teaching experience (typically 1-2 years) and completion of pre-requisites for graduate MA TESOL courses are important. Other factors which may enhance a candidate’s application include: teaching experience, overseas experience, additional languages studied, and a clear statement of purpose for entering the program. (Note: Those without a Bachelor's Degree may not be eligible for TESL Canada certification.
