1.Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design
Design reconciles conflicting visions and exploits all available technologies to shape and sustain a better world. Houston’s hot, humid environment, low lying Gulf Coast geography, and dispersed pattern of unzoned metropolitan development presents designers with an extraordinary laboratory full of challenges and opportunities. The proposals seeded in the vast urban sprawl of Houston are transmutable to cities around the globe.
The Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design offers its students a platform of integrated disciplines—Architecture, Interior Architecture and Industrial Design—from which to negotiate the complexities of contemporary practice in a world that is grappling with diminishing economic and natural resources; the realities of post disaster reconstruction; and at the same time, continued, rapid urbanization.
Faculty and students work together in a studio-centric curriculum, supported by a digital fabrication facility. Open studios seamlessly incorporate coursework into project based learning through material investigations and applied research.
Making is not simply an action or a craft, but a form of critical thinking, calling forth innovative solutions for contemporary conditions.

The University of Houston’s College of Education prepares graduates to change the world - through teaching, leadership, health promotion, counseling and research. More than 2,500 students pursue about 30 undergraduate and graduate academic programs, both on campus and online.

Our programs exceed national standards for excellence, including accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation for Educator Preparation and American Psychological Association. Our graduate online programs are ranked No. 2 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The National Council on Teacher Quality ranks our teacher preparation program among the nation's top 1 percent.
Our faculty have a wide range of expertise, serve in leadership positions with key national associations, and have received significant grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Institute of Education Sciences and the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.

4.College of Engineering
By historical measures, we are a relatively young program at a young university. Beginning in 1927 as a junior college serving the city of Houston, the University of Houston was formally established in 1934 as a private institution. A few years later, in the early 1940s, the College of Engineering officially began. In the early 1960s, the University became a public state institution and UH's engineering programs experienced one of the most rapid developments in the academic engineering community. By the late 1970s, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Mechanical Engineering were ranked among the top programs nationally, with Chemical being in the top 10 and Mechanical in the top 30. Our remaining programs—Electrical & Computer Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Industrial Engineering—also experienced rapid development and emerged as nationally competitive programs. This development to excellence continues today as we expand by launching a new Department of Biomedical Engineering and a new undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering.
In addition to the degree programs offered in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical and petroleum engineering, we have several specialty programs available in the areas of aerospace, materials, and computer and systems engineering. Responding to the needs of the vast petroleum engineering community in Houston, we recently launched a certificate program in Subsea Engineering, the first program of its kind in the United States. And, we have a newly launched Honors Engineering Program (HEP) for engineering students studying in The Honors College.
