在托福口语备考中考生往往陷入题海战术，背诵大量的口语段落和句型，但由于选取的段落具有极大的局限性，所以往往陷入以题练题的痛苦深渊，使得考试成绩难以得到突破。比如说，关于描述人物的题目就有数不胜数。例如：What characteristics do you think make someone a good parent? Choose a quality you think makes someone a valuable member of a team. Describe a person that you look up to as a role model. Describe a person who positively influenced your life. Describe the famous person you admire most. Describe your favorite performer or musician. In your opinion, what are some important characteristics of a good teacher? Describe a person that you admire. Neighbors are the people who live near us. In your opinion，what are the qualities of a good neighbor? In your opinion, what are some important characteristics of a good leader? Describe your favorite teacher. Explain why
you like this teacher. Describe a special friend in your childhood. Explain how this friend influenced to you? Some students prefer to be taught by experienced teachers who have more teaching experience. Other students prefer to be taught by new teachers who have just finished their training. 也就是说关人物的题目就数不胜数，如果我们把每一个关于人物的题目都作以细节的答案，那么我们至少要准备几十个段落。我们按照45秒钟来计时，那么我们每个段落要书写60-80个文。
不难算出我们要至少背诵上千字的文字才能完成关于人的话题。试想一下，在考试极度紧张的情况下，我们又怎么能快速想起并流畅的表达出我们书写的段落呢?况且我们要完成所有题目的背诵，我们至少要准备几万字的口语背诵段落。而更悲剧的是，这几万字的背诵段落只能应对简单的task 1和2的内容。那样我们的口语学习真正的陷入了苦海无涯的状态。
