Application Process
Application for admission to the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for all degree and non-degree programs is an online process.
All documents in support of your application must be uploaded to your application. This includes all required materials such as your personal statement of purpose and transcripts. No materials are to be mailed to the Graduate School or to your designated program of study.
Recommenders submit their letters of recommendation for you online. Once you identify a recommender they will receive an email providing instructions and access information.
You have the ability to work on your application at any time and submit it when you are ready.
You have the ability to “track” the receipt of standardized test scores and recommendations as soon as you have submitted your application forms.
After submission, you may print a PDF copy for your own use that will look exactly like the image made available to the faculty for review online.
Applications received on or before the deadline of the program to which you are applying are made available, in image form, to your designated program to review after the deadline of your program.
Application accounts created or started but not submitted by the deadline of your respective program will be deleted prior to the start of the new application cycle (early August of each year). Application data and any associated supplemental materials are not retained.

Three recommenders (minimum).

Identify your program of study and degree level
The Graduate School offers only programs at the Ph.D. degree or M.A./M.S.degree (terminal) levels. Please ensure that your degree preference is for a Program of the Graduate School and not one of the Professional Schools.
All Yale programs at the Ph.D. and M.S./M.A./M.A.S. levels are offered only at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
The University’s professional schools (Art, Architecture, Divinity, Drama, Forestry, Law, Management, Medicine, Music, Nursing, and Public Health) have separate admissions policies and application processes outlined on the professional schools pages(link is external).

Deadline for Division of Special Registration application for Special Students (SS) for fall semester 2017.
August 15, 2017
Application becomes available online(link is external) for fall 2018 admission to all degree programs of the Graduate School and for admission to the Sackler/NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program.

Deadline for Division of Special Registration application for Special Students (SS) for spring semester 2018.

Deadline for African American Studies (combined with Psychology), Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Psychology and Philosophy (combined with Psychology).

Determine what standardized tests are required and register to take those tests
All applicants to all programs of the Graduate School are required to present the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) except as noted below.
Applicants to the Ph.D. Program in Management may substitute the GMAT
Applicants to the Ph.D. in Law may substitute results of the LSAT
Applicants to the M.S. programs in Public Health may substitute the MCAT
Some applicants may also be required to present the result of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Applicants required to present the results of the TOEFL may substitute the IELTS
