　　1.Dr John Birch Music Scholarship (2017)

　　The University of Sussex is delighted to honour its much loved former music lecturer and organist Dr John Birch (1929-2012), with these named scholarships to support talented musicians (choral, organ and other instrumentalists) to continue to develop and perform while studying at Sussex. These are open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, whether or not they are studying for a Music degree.

　　The scholarships will each be paid in two instalments of £400 in October 2017 and March 2018.

　　1.John Birch 音乐奖学金(2017)

　　Four scholarships of £800 cash award. Each scholarship is for 1 year.

　　Eligibility

　　In order to be considered for a Dr John Birch Music Scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:

　　Be Grade 8 or equivalent in a chosen instrument

　　Undertake an audition at Sussex

　　The applicant must have accepted an offer to study at the University of Sussex, or already be a registered student at the University.

　　Application procedure

　　Candidates should submit a personal statement (max. 500 words) alongside the attached application form. Applications will be ranked and assessed based on how applicants propose to develop their musical career whilst at Sussex.

　　19 May 2017 - Deadline for all applications to be received (23:59 BST)

　　31 May 2017 - Auditions to be held at Sussex

　　31 May 2017 - Successful applicants to be notified

　　October 2017/March 2018 - Scholar receives award payment instalments.

　　2.Long Stayers Scholarship (2017)

　　There are two awards available which consist of a fee waiver and a £3000 cash award which will be paid in three instalments per year, £1000 per term.

　　Eligibility

　　To be eligible for the award you will:

　　be legally resident in the UK, have been granted Leave to Remain in the UK and do not qualify for funding from Student Finance England; or

　　have been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status as a result of an asylum or human rights application; or

　　are an asylum seeker or the partner / dependant of an asylum seeker

　　have received an offer of a conditional or unconditional place on a full time undergraduate degree programme at the University of Sussex, excluding courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School

　　have not already obtained a degree or degree equivalent qualification from another Institution

　　have not met the eligibility criteria for funding from Student Finance England

　　have a household income of less than £42,875

　　remain on the programme for which the scholarship is offered

　　Please complete the online application form . The deadline for applications is 2 July 2017.

　　You will need to upload the following information with your application form as proof of eligibility.

　　copies of documentation confirming your visa or asylum status (letter or Biometric Residence Permit Card)

　　proof of your household income. E.g. P60, payslips, benefit notification letters, self-employed accounts etc.

　　Close of Applications: 2nd July 2017 at 23:59pm

　　Notification of Award: 18th August 2017

　　The payments of the cash award will be made at the start of December, February and May.

　　3.Sussex Excellence Scholarships (2017)

　　The Sussex Excellence Scholarship is a merit-based award recognising, and rewarding, undergraduate students who achieved excellent academic performance before joining the University.

　　The Sussex Excellence Scholarship is worth £3,000 in Year One of a three or four year undergraduate degree:

　　£1,000 cash award and £2,000 rent reduction if you are living in University-managed accommodation *

　　or

　　£3,000 cash award if you are not living in University-managed accommodation *

　　* Please note Abacus House is not University managed.

　　You will automatically be awarded the Sussex Excellence Scholarship if you have achieved the required scholarship threshold in one of the eligible academic qualifications. See the full eligibility criteria below for details.

　　If your qualification is listed below and you achieve the minimum grades listed you will be automatically awarded the Sussex Excellence Scholarship. There is no separate application form.

　　Qualifications not listed above

　　If you are taking other qualification, and are achieving outstanding results, you can apply for one of 10 additional scholarships. Selection will be based on academic merit. The successful students will be taking qualifications equivalent to British A levels and be achieving very high grades (ie. it is expected that those awarded the scholarship will be achieving results within approximately the top 10% of results for that qualification.

　　Past recipients of these bonus scholarships have been taking qualifications like the Access to HE Diploma, the Polish Świadectwo Dojrzałości (Certificate of Maturity) and the Malaysian Unified Examination Certificate

　　Application procedure

　　Applications will open on Wednesday 1st February 2017 and the deadline for applying is Monday 3rd April 2017.

　　Scholarship payments

　　Students in University Accommodation

　　The rent reduction will be applied at the start of Year One of a three or four year undergraduate degree. The cash award will be paid in two instalments of £500 in Year One, with the first instalment paid in November and the second in March.

　　Students in Privately Rented Accommodation

　　The cash award will be paid in two installments of £1,500 in year one, with the first instalment paid in November and the second in March.

　　You will automatically be awarded the Sussex Excellence Scholarship if you have achieved the required scholarship threshold in one of the eligible academic qualifications:

　　*All subject areas are eligible except Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) degrees.

　　You must have, or obtain, a UK bank account, and the details of this account must be added to your Sussex Direct profile, in order to receive payment.
