在森林里住着一只乌龟和一只兔子，有一天，乌龟与兔在为他们俩谁跑得快而吵个不停。于是，他两决定来一场赛跑比赛，定在明天中午森林最大那棵树前开始。
第二天，比赛开始了，兔子一下子就跑了很远很远，乌龟却还在慢慢地爬着。这时候兔子转过头，都看不见乌龟了，于是兔子就得意地笑了：“哼觉得自己是天生的飞毛腿，跑得快，对比赛掉以轻心，躺在路旁睡着了。乌龟深知自己走得慢，毫不气馁，不停地朝前奔跑。结果，乌龟超过了睡熟了的兔子，夺得了胜利的奖品。
这故事说明，奋发图强的弱者也能战胜骄傲自满的强者。

A HARE one day ridiculed the short feet and slow pace of the Tortoise, who replied, laughing: "Though you be swift as the wind, I will beat you in a race." The Hare, believing her assertion to be simply impossible, assented to the proposal; and they agreed that the Fox should choose the course and fix the goal. On the day appointed for the race the two started together. The Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. The Hare, lying down by the wayside, fell fast asleep. At last waking up, and moving as fast as he could, he saw the Tortoise had reached the goal, and was comfortably dozing after her fatigue.
