What is Yokohama like?
Yokohama is the second largest city after the 23 wards of central Tokyo, with a population of about 3.7 million people. It is the capital of Kanagawa Prefecture and has an international trading port with a long history, as well as Japan’s largest Chinatown.
Yokohama is located only 30 minutes from Tokyo (by train), 30 minutes from Haneda Airport (by highway bus) and 90 minutes from Narita Airport (by the JR Narita Express or highway bus).

一、UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT ADMISSIONS
本科生入学
At Yokohama National University, international students are admitted under Yokohama Global Education Program (YGEP). YGEP-N1 seeks international students with Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level of Japanese by Standard Admission and Pre-arrival Admission. The students will study the standard curriculum with Japanese students in Japanese. YGEP-N2 seeks international students with JLPT N2 level of Japanese living abroad by Pre-arrival Admission. The students will study Japanese language and culture intensively during the first year and study their specialized areas with Japanese students in Japanese from the second year onwards. In either case, students are NOT required to take the JLPT prior to their application.

There are seven types of Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships available for international students: those for “Research Students”, “Teacher Training Students”, “Japanese Studies Students”, “Undergraduate Students”, “College of Technology Students”, “Special Training Students” and “Young Leaders Program students”.
