Surroundings
Wageningen is attractively situated between river and forests and offers excellent transport connections to Arnhem and Nijmegen as well as Utrecht and the Randstad. In Wageningen and nearby, there is a range of entertainment options. The surrounding area has a large choice of schools, including an international school in Arnhem.Hospitality and night life.Wageningen is a true student city with many cafés and restaurants throughout the old town. The highest concentration of these is on the market square around the main church, which has a pleasant buzz until late during the summer.In addition, the theatre, cinemas and various dance venues offer varied entertainment. The art gallery and arboretum, Het Depot, is also located in Wageningen. In the summer months there are a number of festivals of which the best known is the Liberation Festival ("Bevrijdingsfestival": celebrating freedom and the liberation after the Second World War) on 5 May.
Ede also has good nightlife. This includes two cinemas. Cinemec has 8 halls, including the largest 3D screen in the Benelux. If a bit of culture is your thing, there are two theatres and the internationally renowned Kröller Möller Museum with a large Van Gogh collection and a large sculpture garden.Arnhem is also only 20 km away and can be reached easily by car or public transport.

In short, this is an environment that offers you many opportunities for meeting people who may be valuable later in your career.Wageningen Campus has plenty of facilities that you can use during your studies or leisure time. The library is the best place to study undisturbed. You can also study there in the evenings and at weekends. You will find all the literature relevant to your studies in the library. To assist you in learning or further developing your foreign languages, for instance if you are preparing for an internship abroad, there is a language centre which provides courses in many foreign languages.If you are planning to set up your own company, you can also receive assistance in this endeavour. StartHub is an organisation on campus for entrepreneurial students, with its own building where student startups take their first steps on the path to becoming a successful enterprise.Many activities are organised on campus, from content-related activities such as lectures and debates, in which you can broaden your knowledge, to parties, films and concerts. In the campus agenda you can find out what is planned for each day.Also in the area of sports, the campus has plenty to offer. With a student sports card, you can participate in a huge range of sports and become a member of any number of student sports clubs.

Wageningen University & Research Library is located in the Forum building on Wageningen Campus. The library seeks to facilitate students and researchers in their education and research. The focus here is primarily on digital collections.However, there is also a large collection of printed works (books and journals) in the field of Life Sciences and a Special Collections department with rare and valuable material.The library is not only for students and employees of Wageningen University & Research, but also for third parties who are granted access to some of the library’s services, including companies located on campus. A large collection of Open Access publications by Wageningen University & Research is also publically available online.There are some computers in the library reserved for guests. From these computers you can access virtually the entire online library. With a valid ID, guests can also borrow books free of charge.Finally, the library can also provide a number of customised services. That could include delivering printed publications directly on location, providing training in the field of information literacy or creating fact sheets, files or databases on specific topics.

We understand that it is very hard to look for your own place in a different country. Below you can find information how to apply for a room.Prospective studentsIdealis (the main student housing corporation in Wageningen), is the allocating authority for all rooms of Idealis and Wageningen University together. Idealis provides prospective students with information about the application procedure. If you are a prospective student, please wait for Idealis to contact you by email. You will be contacted by Idealis if you have confirmed your application for your studies in STARS (EU students) or after you have settled your invoice with the university (Non-EU students) Idealis will contact you approximately two to three months before the start date of your programme in Wageningen. You qualify for registration with Idealis if you are a student of Wageningen University or if you are a Phd candidate who will graduate at Wageningen University.If you want to qualify for student housing through Idealis, you can register with Idealis after receiving their information about the application procedure. Registration with Idealis is free of charge. After registration, you can start to respond to the availabale housing offers on their website. If more than one person responds to a housing offer, the room will be offered to the person with the highest ranking. Ranking depends on the date of registration with Idealis and on, if applicable, your priority status. After acceptance of a room, you will be provided with information about key collection and the tenancy contract.If your current residential address is more than 130 kilometres away from Wageningen Campus, you qualify for distance priority. When you register with Idealis, an automatic calculation will be made to see if you qualify. Campus restaurants
Besides catering counters in various buildings, there are also four large restaurants on Wageningen Campus that are open to everyone. Each restaurant has its own menu with a wide range of choice for campus users throughout the day.You will find the café The Spot in Orion, which is open from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. You can get fresh Australian coffee throughout the day, as well as sweet snacks and sandwiches. Hot food is also served from 4:00 PM onwards.Lunch is served in the restaurant next to The Spot between 11:45 AM and 1:30 PM with a choice of fresh-cooked warm meals, fresh soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, juices, smoothies and more. Vegetarians, vegans and those with food allergies are also catered to. Staff will be able to provide more information about the options. The Spot has a large terrace where you can eat outside on sunny days.You can find more information in the app osp@orion which is available for free from the AppStore (Android/ iOs).On the ground floor of Forum, you will find the Grand Café. There is also a large restaurant on the first floor. The Forum restaurant is open on weekdays from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, while the Grand Café is open from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.During the lunch break, you can get sandwiches, soups, salads, juices and smoothies as well as hot and cold snacks in Forum. From Monday – Thursday freshly prepared hot meals are served between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The cuisine is internationally oriented with Halal certified products, as well as vegan and vegetarian products.
Futurum- Restaurant of the Future and Impulse:The Restaurant of the Future is open on weekdays from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. The menu consists of hot dishes, snacks, a salad bar, artisanal soups or meal salads, fresh smoothies and vegetable drinks. The restaurant works with organic, sustainable products sourced mainly from local companies.Next to the Restaurant of the Future, you can find Wageningen Campus’ meeting centre Impulse. Impulse is open on weekdays from 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM. At the bar at Impulse, besides coffee, tea and cold drinks, you can also get sandwiches, fresh juices and yoghurt.The Restaurant of the Future and Impulse share a terrace where you can eat outside on sunny days.
Leeuwenborch:The Leeuwenborch has a coffee corner that is open on weekdays from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. The restaurant is open for lunch between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM and in the evening between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.The assortment of Leeuwenborch includes a large selection of vegetarian meals and is organic as much as possible (this is not possible for all products all year round). Besides sandwiches, you can get fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies and iced tea.In the evenings, the restaurant serves fresh hot meals – to takeaway if you wish. On Thursdays, the restaurant has a Ghanaian cook who prepares traditional Ghanaian dishes. When the weather is good, there are also barbeques in the courtyard of Leeuwenborch.
