What do you want most in a friend? Someone who is intelligent, or someone who has a sense of humor, or someone who is reliable? Which of these characteristics is most important to you? Use reasons and specific examples to explain your choice.

Mistrust is said to be poison to friendship, and it does not matter whether a friend is intelligent or has a sense of humor. Real friendship must be built on mutual reliability more than any other quality. Of course, it is all the better to have a reliable friend who happens to be brainy and/or funny.
A friend who is intelligent is desirable but not indispensable. In times of need, most likely an intelligent person walks out while a reliable one walks in. A fair-weather friend may go so far as enlighten a troubled mind, short of saving a poor soul from the agony of desperate need. As such, intelligence is a virtue in itself with nothing to do with what is known as true friendship. It is no-brainer when it comes to choosing a life-long friend between the one who is intelligent and the other who is trust-worthy. Safety first, after all.

It is lucky to have a good neighbor as much as unfortunate to have a bad one. Nowadays, the people who live near us are mostly not friends by choice, nor relatives by birth, but are probably acquaintances by chance. We are blessed by having righteous neighbors who do not act like strangers or become enemies. In our view, a righteous neighbor is often associated with such virtues as tolerance and respect, and help and love.

Without mutual tolerance and mutual respect, neighbors are not likely to live at peace. A good neighbor exercises self-respect, doing the right thing so as not to annoy people living next door. >Films and computer games with violence are very popular in the world. Some people believe these have negative effects on society and should be banned. Other people say these are just harmless relaxations. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.


Violent films and computer games should be banned, if possible, because they can emotionally affect many viewers, particularly children. It can be seen that violence remains one of the most problematic areas for censorship in many countries, especially when it is in conjunction with sex and drugs. The question is not why but how.

It is not without logic that films and computer games with violence should be put out of the market. According to experts, continued exposures to violent images will make children less sensitive to violence. In fact, they are gradually more accepting of violence and therefore more likely to commit aggressive acts since the emotional component or brake associated with aggression is reduced. That is to say that the more violent the scenes and the longer they last, the more normal the behavior seems. 【重刑犯应该活活吊死】的一派想法是主张正义声张。另一派人反对死刑的人主要是考量人类的爱心。不过大部分人的意见好像多少站在两种极端看法的中间。

反对死刑的论点大多来自人道与宗教各界。他们认为‘以眼还眼’的古老原则，不能适用于今天， 是以无法接受处死活人的实施。死刑一途并不能阻止犯罪的发生。无期徒刑可取代死刑。真正执行死刑之事，应该是属于过去的历史。这种观点已经广受理解。难怪全世界有百分之60的国家，包挂欧盟，已经前后取消极刑。

另一方面，坚持执行死刑的意见者，大有人在。历史上，几乎每个社会都有死刑的存在，功在有效阻止重罪的发生。道理很简单。如果把罪大恶极的分子铲除，社会中的良民才有安宁。该死的人死了，就永远不能犯罪，免得监狱里作乱，越狱，或经释放后重新做乱。因此，死刑一旦确定，越快执行越好，免得重犯白吃公粮，造成财务损失。

综观死刑之利弊，死刑的执行应该是极不得以之措施。看来，死刑势在必行，不过一定要经过谨慎和公平的审判。作奸犯科，杀人贩毒，如果罪无可赦，理当处死，以免嫁祸人间。理智的司法当然要辨别轻重。有的无可救药，有的纵然杀人犯法，也许情有可原。
