这是一篇生物学讲座，它围绕梳理同种类动物的毛发给群居动物带来的两个好处(two benefits of grooming for social animals)展开话题。
第一， 梳理毛发助于保护动物不生病(protect animals from disease)。动物生活在野外，会吸引大量的昆虫，有些会传播疾病。但是，梳理毛发会降低得病的风险，这对于群居动物来说，尤其有利，因为疾病扩散得很快，并且群居动物很容易大量滋生像寄生虫这样的小昆虫。例如，当黑猩猩穿过草地，皮肤和毛发上会粘附很多昆虫。但是，它们每天花几个小时彼此梳理毛发，阻止昆虫长时间停留在皮肤上，这样来保护黑猩猩不得病。
第二， 梳理毛发有利于避免群居动物之间的冲突(help social animals avoid conflict)。当动物梳理对方毛发时，彼此会靠近，并且有肢体上的碰触，这会产生令人愉快的安抚效果，帮助动物放松，减少冲突。例如，两只黑猩猩争抢食物，一只表现地气势汹汹，另一只伸出手，开始梳理对方的毛发，让这只侵略性十足的黑猩猩开始变得冷静，最后避免了打斗。

(woman) Hey, Matt, how’s it going?
(man) Uh, so so. I’ve got a problem with my housing next semester and I have to make a decision soon.
(woman) What’s going on?
(man) Well, I lived in the dormitory, and I’ve got a great roommate for the last two year, but he’s moving off campus next semester.
(woman) Oh! So?
(man) So now I have to make a big decision. You know, about my living arrangements.
(woman) Well, couldn’t you just get a new roommate? Doesn’t the university automatically assign someone to take his place?
(man) Yeah, they do. The thing is, I am concerned about sharing a room with somebody new. There could be problems, like, what if he wanted to go to sleep at ten o’clock? I am used to studying late at night and that would throw off my whole study schedule.
(woman) I guess that’s possible. But it is convenient to be on campus, easy to get to class and all. What else could you do?
(man) Well, My roommate found a house off campus with some other friends and there’s another bedroom available. I could have it, but I have to let them know by the end of the week.

3. 你是做什么工作的呢?What’s your job?
Are you working at the moment?
Note：what’s your job这种说法难道也有毛病吗?是的。因为如果您的谈话对象刚刚失业，如此直接的问法会让对方有失面子，所以您要问：目前您是在上班吗?Are you working at the moment?接下来您才问：目前您在哪儿工作呢?Where are you working these days?或者您从事哪个行业呢?What line of work are you in?顺带说一下，回答这类问题时不妨说得具体一点，不要只是说经理或者秘书。
4. 用英语怎么说?How to say?
How do you say this in English?
Note：How to say是在中国最为泛滥成灾的中国式英语之一，这决不是地道的英语说法。同样的句子有：请问这个词如何拼写?How do you spell that please?请问这个单词怎么读?How do you pronounce this word?
5. 明天我有事情要做。I have something to do tomorrow?
Sorry but I am tied up all day tomorrow. 用I have something to do来表示您很忙，这也完全是中国式的说法。因为每时每刻我们都有事情要做，躺在那里睡大觉也是事情。所以您可以说我很忙，脱不开身：I’m tied up.还有其他的说法：I’m afraid I can’t make it at that time. I’d love to, but I can’t, I have to stay at home。
6. 我没有英文名。I haven’t English name.
I don’t have an English name.
Note：许多人讲英语犯这样的错误，从语法角度来分析，可能是语法功底欠缺，因为have在这里是实义动词，而并不是在现在完成时里面那个没有意义的助动词。所以，这句话由肯定句变成否定句要加助动词。
