The Culture of Western Festivals
As the world gets globalized, people from different countries share the diverse culture. The popular festivals like Christmas and Halloween are favored by people from all over the world.
In China, young people are crazy about the Christmas festival. They treat it as the big day and prepare for it ahead. Some people think it is the bad situation for the young people to be fascinated by western festival.
In my opinion, the meaning of the festival can educate people to be a better person. Christmas Day can provide people the chance to stay together and Thanksgiving Day teaches them to be grateful all the time. So we can share the spirit of festivals.

随着整个世界变得越来越全球化，来自不同国家的人共享着多元文化。如今流行的节日，像圣诞节和万圣节受到了来自世界各地人们的喜爱。
在中国，年轻人都喜欢圣诞节，他们把这一天当作大日子，并提前做好准备。有些人认为年轻人着迷于西方节日是不好的。
在我看来，节日的意义在于可以教育人们成为更好的人，圣诞节可以为人们提供呆在一起的机会，感恩节也教会他们应当心存感激。因此我们可以共享到文化的精华。

12月25日是西元274年罗马国王奥勒良指定的庆祝罗马帝国官方庆祝叙利亚太阳神苏里耶和伊朗太阳神米特拉的节日Dies Natalis Solis Invicti(意为“不可征服的太阳”生日)，这一节日一直持续到基督教被定为国教之后被禁止。叙利亚太阳神崇拜最早是古罗马国王安东尼努斯(Marcus Antoninus)引入古罗马帝国还取代了主神朱庇特，并在奥勒良国王时期成为国家节日。这一天是为了庆祝太阳的重生或回归，因为那一天是一年中白天最短的日期，用中国的概念表示就是指罗马历法的冬至节。那一天以后，白天会逐渐变长，崇拜太阳神的异教徒都把这一天当作春天的希望，万物复苏的开始。同时庆祝太阳回归的那一天在世界范围内不同文化都是作为重要节日庆祝的。而存在太阳神的文化，这一天都成为了太阳被拟人化后诞生的日子。早期基督教会为了利用这一天假日，也试图把异教徒的风俗习惯基督教化，就把耶稣生日指定在了这一天。所以除去强加的宗教意义，圣诞日其实就是西方的“冬至”日。

西方人以红、绿、白三色为圣诞色，圣诞节来临时家家户户都要用圣诞色来装饰。红色的有圣诞花和圣诞蜡烛。绿色的是圣诞树。它是圣诞节的主要装饰品，用砍伐来的杉、柏一类呈塔形的常青树装饰而成。上面悬挂着五颜六色的彩灯、礼物和纸花，还点燃着圣诞蜡烛。

Nowadays, there appears a phenomenon that the western customs are spreading into the east countries step by step, thus making many inhabitants who live in big cities enjoy themselves on these western festivals such as Christmas Day, April Fool’s Day, etc. Such phenomenon shows us that the world people are getting close gradually and the world is becoming smaller and smaller as well.
