一、 词汇的挑选
一定的词汇量恐怕是做好雅思阅读最基本的前提。 总有学生问道，到底需要记下多少单词才可以考雅思。 常见的理论当然是越多越好，这样就可以扫清所有的障碍。然后就有学生下定决心去记下所有的阅读生词。 这样固好，只是从使用的角度，并不是所有的生词都需要我们去花费大量的精力。那么雅思的阅读词汇是怎么考的，我们看下面一个例子;
Original text：The seasonal impact of day length on physiological responses is called photoperiodism, and the amount of experimental evidence for this phenomenon is considerable.
Statement: There is plenty of scientific evidence to support photoperiodism.
从这个例子中可以看到， 只要认识considerable这个形容词就可以做出判断了，considerable 意思是“大量的”， 和“plenty of”直接形成同义转述，可以判断本题应该是TRUE, 至于本句中了另外一个生词“photoperiodism”并没有影响我们对文章的理解， 就不需要再花精力去记忆了。 鉴于雅思A类阅读中会出现的大量的专业术语，以及平时会很少使用到的古语其实是可以忽略的。 但是一些常用的实词却是需要考生们一定要补充进来的，有时甚至还需要去记下这些词的特殊用法。
二、 句型结构的熟练
除了词汇的掌握外，考生们还会碰到这么一种状况：句子并没有出现特别难的生词，甚至是句子中没有生词，可是句子的意思依然不太明确。 这样的句子同样给考生们带来了阅读中的障碍，其实这也是雅思阅读的另外一个考查点： 句子结构错综复杂，长句屡屡皆是。 例：
Original text: Such expansion, which was to take the English language west to America and east to India, was supported by scientific developments such as the discovery of magnetism (and hence the invention of the compass), improvements in cartography and – perhaps the most important scientific revolution of them all— the new theories of astronomy and the movement of the earth in relation to the planets and stars.
